The Australian Government has recently included India in its list of eligible countries for the Work and Holiday Subclass 462 Visa, providing Indian nationals with the opportunity to stay and work in Australia for up to one year.

Australia Work and Holiday Visa for Indians

The Australian Government will open the Ballot process for the Working Holiday Program on 16 September 2024. The eligible countries for this process include India, China, and Vietnam. The Subclass 462 Visa allows individuals to experience life in Australia while working, and it may be renewed up to three times, depending on eligibility.

India has been allotted 1000 visa slots for the current year.

Types of Australia Subclass 462 Visa

Eligibility Criteria for Indians Applying for Subclass 462 Visa

• Must be an Indian citizen
• Age between 18 – 30 years at the time of application
• If previously held a Work and Holiday Visa, must meet the conditions for a second work holiday visa
• Must apply from outside Australia
• Educational qualification: Minimum 2 years of study (above post-secondary level) with an accepted degree, diploma, or graduate certificate (specific policy for India to be released soon)
• Family members cannot be included in the application

Requirements to Apply for Subclass 462 Visa

English Language Requirement:

• No mandatory English test required if the applicant has completed education in English.
• If taking a test, a minimum IELTS general band score of 4.5 (or PTE score of 30) is required.
• Studying in English for at least 3 years can substitute for the English language test.

Financial Proof:

• Proof of funds of at least AUD 5,000 (equivalent to INR 4.5 to 5.5 lakhs) readily available before applying.

Health Insurance:

• May need to complete health requirements.
• Health insurance strongly recommended.

Police Verification & Character Requirement:

• Police clearances required for countries stayed in for 12+ months in the last 10 years.
• Biometrics may be needed depending on the applicant’s country.
• No history of visa cancellation or refusal.

Australian Government Debt:

• Any outstanding debts to the Australian Government must be cleared before applying.

Australian Immigration History:

• No history of visa cancellations or refusals.
• Immigration history will be considered before approving the application.

Steps to Apply for an Australian Work and Holiday Visa

Step 1: Apply for the Ballot & Await Selection

• The ballot process opens on 16 September 2024.
• 1000 places are allocated to Indian citizens.

Step 2: Apply for the Visa Upon Selection

• Once selected, submit the visa application with required documents within the allowed timeframe.

• Salary must comply with Australian award rates and conditions
