Skills In Demand Visa (SID) - Subclass 482

The Skills In Demand Visa (SID) – Subclass 482 allows skilled workers to travel to Australia and work in their nominated occupation for an approved sponsor (employer) for up to four years.

Before applying for the Subclass 482 visa, an applicant must have a sponsoring employer who is a Standard Business Sponsor and has lodged a nomination application with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

Employers who are not yet eligible sponsors must first apply for sponsorship approval before nominating an employee. Sponsorship and nomination applications can be submitted simultaneously.

Employers must meet strict Department of Immigration requirements to become eligible sponsors, including demonstrating business tenure, critical need for specific positions, training benchmarks, verification that no Australian citizen or PR holder is available for the role, offering competitive salaries, and meeting other regulatory criteria.

The Skills In Demand Visa (SID) – Subclass 482 features three distinct streams:

  1. Specialist Skills Stream
  2. Core Skills Stream
  3. Labour Agreement Stream

The Core Skills Stream caters to professionals listed under the New Core Skills Occupation List with a minimum salary requirement ranging from AUD 70,000 to AUD 135,000. If a candidate does not qualify under this stream, they may be eligible under the Specialist Skills Stream, provided they earn above AUD 135,000.

Eligibility for Subclass 482 Visa

  • Must be sponsored by an approved standard business sponsor
  • Nominated for a skilled occupation approved by the Australian Government
  • Must possess required skills for the nominated occupation
  • Meet English language proficiency requirements (if applicable)
  • Must obtain professional registration or licensing (if applicable)
  • Must work only in the nominated occupation
  • Must satisfy health, character, and skills assessment requirements
  • Must maintain adequate health insurance unless covered under Medicare
  • Eligible to include partner, dependent children, and family members in the application

Requirements for Subclass 482 Visa

  • Work experience in an occupation listed in the Skilled Occupation List
  • Nominated by a Standard Business Sponsor
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Completion of skills assessment
  • Maintenance of health insurance while in Australia
